Manufacturing
George Barnsdale combine advanced tooling and machinery with hand finished attention to detail to produce a product of the highest quality.
Timber Storage / Humidification
Our timber is stored in a humidity controlled environment and the humidity throughout the factory is controlled in the same way. As a result the product, when finished, has a moisture content very close to that it will experience when fitted. By ensuring that moisture variations in service are reduced timber movement is minimised. This leads to longer coating life, better weather tightness and operability.
Advanced Machinery
After developing in the latest tooling, machinery and software, we now have a system that allows us to produce our complete range of products, including complex shapes, with significant flexibility to very tight tolerances. The result is a consistently high performing product that can be tailored to individual customer’s requirements.
The investment has significantly increased our factory capacity, allowing us to create bespoke products in large volumes to achieve the requirements of large projects.
Attention To Detail
True attention to every small detail allows us to produce superior products. For example, we use resorcinol formaldehyde adhesive on our joints. This is an expensive two pack adhesive but BRE research has proved it to give the best long term performance. We have humidity control throughout our manufacturing areas to stop the timber drying out too much. When painting our products we use a different mid coat to top coat. It is then obvious when recoating is required.
Coating
Preservative - All timber is treated with the Sikkens Cetol WV 882 water-borne borate containing preservative, which provides a long term resistance against decay, ensuring long life.
Primer – All items are fully immersed in Sikkens Cetol WP582 water-borne base stain. This ensures all end grains and cut outs are fully coated.
Midcoat – A further immersion in Sikkens Cetol WM660 ensures that another layer of coating is applied to ell end grains, v-grooves and cut outs. The immersion of base and mid coats provides excellent penetration into difficult to reach areas that cannot be achieved by spraying such coatings. After application of mid coats surfaces are lightly de-nibbed where necessary to provide a smooth finish prior to the top coat.
Specialist end grain sealers –Sikkens Kodrin WV470 and Sikkens Kodrin WV456 are applied to v-grooves to ensure any potential moisture ingress on these vulnerable areas is further reduced.
Top Coat – Top coats are spray applied to provide a high build durable finish. Sikkens Cetol WF955 is applied for translucent finishes and Sikkens Rubbol WF378 is applied for opaque finishes.
Fitting / Glazing
Whilst the early stages of manufacture have been highly automated, we glaze and finish the windows by hand. Through attention to detail and rigorous quality inspection, we guarantee a product that is finished and performs to the highest level.
