Pre-Finished Windows
To provide quality windows which can achieve good aesthetics and high performance for many years, Barnsdale windows are pre-finished using state of the art techniques and equipment.
Manufacture
After all timber machining is complete the following procedure takes place:
- Timber components are assembled
- All timber is treated with Sikens Cetol WV 882 preservative
- Components are dipped in either primer coat or base stained
- Components are de-nibbed
- Components are sprayed with a mid coat
- Components are sprayed with a finishing coat
- Windows are weatherstripped
- Windows are glazed, if required
- Sashes are fixed and ironmongery fitted
- Final inspection for packaging
Preservation
All timber is treated with the Sikens Cetol WV 882 water-borne borate containing preservative, which provides a long term resistance against decay, ensuring long life.
Finish
The Barnsdale joinery protection and decoration system has been developed by Akzo Nobel Woodcare, who have become the world leaders in new acrylic translucent and opaque joinery coatings. Their Sentinel Plus wood protection programme, offers us high quality training and equipment to produce the best product. The programme also provides on site technical advice both prior to installation, and then 6 months before maintenance is due.
The finishing process is carried out in our purpose built in house finishing area. Here, dipping the components ensures that all joints are completely covered, which is impossible with any other method. Then spraying the coating with air assisted airless spray equipment gives the correct film thickness for maximum durability. De-nibbing is carried out between the dip and mid coats, ensuring a high quality finish.
Maintenance
Any coating damage must be spot primed and then brought forward with the appropriate product. Re-coating is a very simple operation; simply wipe down with a damp cloth and apply one of the following: Sikkens Cetol BL31 for translucent, Permaglaze MVP acrylic gloss or Sadolin superdec for opaque.
