Warranty Guidelines
Coating Warranty
Our windows are coated with Sikkens coatings & our coatings warranty is supported by them. No recoating is required during this warranty period providing the coating is not damaged, but this period can be affected by exposure, based on the following table:

This information is designed to give an overview of the warranties provided, however all contracts entered into are subject to our standard terms & conditions of sale.
Warranty Covers The Coating Against:
- Peeling
- Cracking (greater than 5% of the coated areas).
- Damage resulting from fungal growth within coating.
- Significant yellowing of the coating.
- Premature erosion of the film leading to areas of exposed timber.
It Does Not Guarantee Against:
- The exudation of resin.
- Extractive staining around knots.
- Failure of the coating around cills over 75mm.
- Any exterior edge not rounded to a minimum of 3mm radius.
- Once the joinery is supplied, the main conditions for the warranty to remain valid are that:-
- The windows are installed in accordance with our instructions. Please check that there is no damage to the coating, such as chipping, staining etc.
- Should the coating become damaged when the windows are installed the coating is promptly repaired in accordance with our remedial coating instructions, please contact us for details.
- The coating is cared for in such a way that it is not damaged by abrasion, for example; window cleaners ladders.
- The coating, and area surrounding the coating, is not cleaned with strong chemicals.
- The coating is cleaned at specified intervals so that dirt retention does not lead to excessive mould growth. Such mould growth is more likely to occur on North facing elevations.
- Only coatings recommended by us are applied to the joinery.
- The correct coating maintenance schedule is followed.
- The warranty registration form is returned to us within eight weeks of purchase.
- The site is not exposed to excessive industrial pollution.
Preservative
The effectiveness of this treatment is dependent on keeping the coating intact throughout the lifespan of the window. The timber must not have a moisture content consistently above 18%.
The warranty covers the timber against:
- Brown Rot
- White Rot
It does not guarantee against:
- Insect attack such as termites.
Once the joinery is supplied, the main conditions for the warranty to remain valid are that:
- The windows are installed promptly in accordance with our instructions. Please ensure that windows are not left on the ground prior to installation. They must be stored above the ground.
- Should the coating become damaged when the windows are installed the coating is promptly repaired in accordance with our remedial coating instructions, please contact us for details.
- Only coatings recommended by us are applied to the joinery.
- The correct coating maintenance schedule is followed.
- The warranty registration form is returned to us within eight weeks of purchase.
Please Note: Only joinery that has received a coating with a minimum dry film thickness of 60 micrometres will be protected by the preservative. All joinery from George Barnsdale and Sons has received a minimum of 100 micrometres dry film of coating.
