Why Choose Timber Windows?
Since the last war timber windows have been perceived as having a short life with high maintenance. Yet there are thousands of Victorian timber windows still in use? Correctly designed and manufactured windows that are delivered fully finished and glazed will, with minimum maintenance, outlast all other options.
Environment
Timber Windows made from renewable & sustainable sources have a minimum impact on global warming. See Greenpeace data for detailed environmental information - You may be shocked by the alternatives!
End of life disposal has limited environmental risks.
Maintenance
Modern factory applied timber coatings will normally last at least 7 years. Re-coating is then, quite simply, a wash down and an application of one coat. With correct maintenance they will outlast all alternatives.
Damaged sections are easily repaired. Alternatives usually require complete replacement, matching with other windows may be impossible. We can match up sections or complete windows exactly as they were made 50, 100 or 200 years ago.
Performance
Timber windows do not easily distort through temperature or exposure extremes, scientific testing shows that their long term weatherproofing performance is outstanding. (Our windows are tested at a UKAS approved test house, see performance data for more information).
Finishes
If the timber remains dry it will last for ever! This is why we have done extensive development with Akzo Nobel, to provide a preservative and painting system that will provide a long term protection with low maintenance. This has included a high quality in house finishing area, and joining the Sikkens Sentinel Plus Wood Protection Programme which provides on site advice both before and after installation.
Aesthetics
Timber windows can be manufactured in almost any configuration, including arched or bowed features. They can also be made to match older designs whilst benefiting from modern high performance. You are not restricted to white or 'Wood Effect' Finishes.
