Our Values

Values

At George Barnsdale, we have been making premium quality timber windows and doors in our Lincolnshire based factory since 1884. We have built our reputation on providing beautiful products of the highest quality with an uncompromising attitude towards high performance and long life.

Customer Satisfaction

Primarily we exist to sell high performance windows and doors with a service that leaves our customers delighted with the result. In order to do this we have defined our niche very clearly, providing beautiful timber windows and doors that can be customised to meet design requirements, which perform to the very highest standards. Our staff and sophisticated software allow us to back up our product with a friendly and efficient service ensuring that we meet deadlines and provide the support our customers should expect.

Sustainability

We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and have always strived to ensure that we source our timber from responsible sources. In 2011, we made the decision to only source timber through the FSC and PEFC timber certification schemes. These schemes ensure that the sources of the timber are well managed and sustainable and are the only way a customer can be sure that the timber is from a sustainable source. See our accreditation page for further details of our certifications.

Supporting the Economy

We are one of only a few manufacturers that still make windows and doors in this country and one of fewer that make 100% of our product range within this country. A key reason for this is that we enjoy making our windows and constantly developing them and we would not get satisfaction from importing products. However, we also are proud of the contribution that we make to the UK economy and believe that we are an example of how small manufacturing businesses can succeed in this country by having a clear goal and utilising the best people and machinery.

Supporting our Community

As an important employer within our local community and most of us being residents within it, we take a very active part in contributing to and supporting our community.

We employ the majority of our workforce from Donington and the surrounding areas and as a result, we play a significant role in the local economy. We have a strong apprenticeship scheme, which we have found to be an excellent way to develop skilled and passionate craftsmen and we have over 50% of our workforce coming from this route. We also have a number of people living in the village who spent their working life with the company.

Investors in PeopleWe have used the Investor in People standard for over 10 years as a method to ensure that we look after our people and develop them to enjoy their job and continuously improve their quality and productivity.

We also encourage our staff to undertake environmentally friendly travel to work, with many using bicycles.

Environmentally Friendly Travel

Improving the Donington Environment for AllStephen Wright is the Chairman of Improving Donington’s Environment for All (IDEA), a voluntary organisation set up to improve Donington for the whole community.

Projects have included the development of a village park with a children’s play area, a skate park and a tidy up of the village with small gardens and maintained hanging baskets along the high street. The IDEA committee is now a strong established group that continues to undertake positive projects within the village.

Five of our employees work for the local Fire Brigade as retained firemen and are regularly called for duty in the local community. By allowing these people to be available the fire service is able to operate 24 hours a day with a very fast response (we are almost next door to the fire station).

“We have a very local workforce and like to support our local community through schemes such as the retained Fire Brigade”
