Spiral Balance Sliding SashBalham, South London View project details
Motivated by the desire to restore their Victorian home to its original beauty, Mr and Mrs Keable chose to replace their existing aluminium casement windows with authentic wooden sliding sash windows more fitting to the property’s heritage. Inspired by the look of a neighbouring property, the couple had a clear idea of the design they were looking for: traditional sliding sash windows incorporating astragal bars and a period-looking sash horn.
Our Approved Partner for the Balham area, Timber Windows (UK), worked with Mr and Mrs Keable to ensure that the windows met their aesthetic expectations with no compromise to performance. Originally a box sash design was specified, but after surveying the property Duncan Wright from Timber Windows (UK) recommended a spiral balance sliding sash design to avoid the risk of the box being shown from the outside.
With a narrower frame profile, the spiral balance sliding sash window utilises a spring balance, which is concealed in the frame, to offset the weight of the sash. This meant that the couple were able to achieve sympathetic replacement of the windows within the existing openings, helping to minimise
“We always knew we wanted to put the sash windows back into our Victorian house”, says Mrs Keable. “We did a lot of research into which company we wanted to use. After speaking to a number of previous Timber Window (UK) customers and hearing their great feedback, we felt confident we were making the right choice. The results are fantastic. Not only are the windows great quality, but the team that fitted them were professional, courteous and did a great job.”
