George Barnsdale is proud to be a sponsor of the “Mind Your Head” exhibition at UK Construction Week 2019 in Birmingham which has been set up to raise awareness of mental health in construction. Coinciding with world mental health day, the event is timely. According to the organisers of the event, there were 1419 suicides in construction in the last 5 years and the campaign hopes to encourage people working in construction and beyond to recognise the issue and to encourage workers to get the help they need.
A construction based art exhibition, there are a range of exhibits on show from a number of companies like velux, tremco illbruck, Helifix, Hemsec, Crittal, HG Matthews, AluK, Gripsure and Zest. George Barnsdale, as a bespoke timber windows and doors manufacturer, naturally submitted a window with a strong message: “Let in the light – even on a cloudy day ……An open window can be seen as a metaphor for many things – letting on the fresh air, encouraging a clearer head and fresh thoughts. It can offer different views, a chance to see the world outside of the confines of a building or one’s self. Windows are often described as the eyes of the building allowing an insight into the outside world as well as what is happening within.”
It is hoped that the exhibition will tour other events throughout the UK including Manchester and London as awareness continues to grow and the stigma of mental health is eroded.
