As part of its ongoing commitment to a sustainable business approach, George Barnsdale is pleased to share that it has renewed its corporate membership with The Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity.
Since 1972, the Woodland Trust has planted 68.5 million trees, saved 1,186 woods, and continues to work to restore thousands of hectares of ancient woodland across the UK. Guided by its vision of “a world where woods and trees thrive for people and nature”, the charity focuses on protecting, restoring and creating woodland nationwide. Through its ambitious plans for 2030, the Woodland Trust aims to strengthen the role that trees and woods play in tackling climate change and reversing nature loss.

As a manufacturer of timber windows and doors, George Barnsdale has always understood the impact its use of timber has on the environment. As a result, the company strives to take a proactive approach to ensuring they protect, conserve, and minimise the potential impact the business has on the environment. As well as its corporate membership with Woodland Trust, George Barnsdale uses FSC® Certified materials and holds certification for FSC® Chain of Custody Certification. As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, George Barnsdale is also committed to reducing its carbon footprint with several initiatives, including:
- Only purchasing specific lengths of timber to help reduce waste
- Automation processes: software matches the timber dimensions for product manufacture automatically, ensuring only the correct length of timber is selected from storage.
- Any excess timber is used to heat the factory and offices.
Donna Simpson, Quality & Environmental Lead at George Barnsdale, said, “We are delighted to support the Woodland Trust, which does fantastic work to protect and restore the UK’s woodland while promoting tree planting initiatives. Our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint underpins everything we do as a business, and we are proud to support a charity so dedicated to safeguarding our natural environment.”
Commenting on the renewal of George Barnsdale’s corporate membership, Julia Crellin, Corporate Fundraising Executive at The Woodland Trust, says, “Thank you to George Barnsdale for your continued support of the Woodland Trust and our mission to protect and restore the UK’s trees and woods.”
